MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA., July 20, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Udacity, the e-learning and talent transformation platform that powers the careers of the future, today announced the launch of a near-new Self-Driving Car Engineer program, updated with the latest autonomous driving technologies. This includes the use of Waymo Open Dataset, the CARLA open source simulator and new work with 3D point clouds.

About 80-85% of the program has been redesigned to stay up to date with technological developments. This includes the addition of new instructors, including the Mercedes-Benz Autonomous Driving Program and Waymo; all new projects throughout; and the implementation of TensorFlow 2+ and new content libraries.

“Before others taught anything about autonomous vehicles, Udacity was here, leading the way. I am proud to say that we are leading the way again with this new version of the Autonomous Car Engineer Nanodegree Program. “, said Sebastien Thrun, co-founder and president of Udacity. “With an emphasis on open source and common skills, even former graduates of this program should seriously consider taking it back, just to familiarize themselves with what’s new.”

Major automakers predicting that they will start selling personal autonomous vehicles in the decade, and as autonomous driving companies continue to expand their ridesharing and trucking businesses, the demand continues to increase for engineers and developers with these skills. Using the Waymo Open Dataset, students will learn to use nearly 600 hours of data to create and run their own simulations.

“The more autonomous vehicle engineers we have, the more likely we’re going to see continued milestones in the industry,” said Dragomir Anguelov, Head of Research at Waymo. “Working with Udacity and my former teacher, Dr Thrun, on this relaunch has given me the opportunity to step back and marvel at the speed and growth of the industry. “

The autonomous car engineer nanodiploma program consists of five courses and is expected to last approximately five months, assuming a student devotes five to ten hours per week to it. The course is now online for registration at www.udacity.com/drive.
